New year, (not so) new me
Much like everyone else, I tend to look at the new year as a fresh slate. A time to motivate myself, set goals and form good habits that will hopefully last. However, the new year is often accompanied by the term ‘new me’. I personally don’t like to look at it this way. Why do I need to be different this year? Inthefrow’s 2021 vlog touches on this in more detail and I couldn’t agree with her more. I am happy with the person I was last year and I will be the same ‘me’ this year.
2020
This time last year I was feeling a bit stuck in a rut. My health & fitness levels were rock bottom and I really wanted a change. So, I took a step back and decided to write a list of personal goals for 2020. At the start of the year it felt like a mammoth task and I honestly didn’t think I would be able to achieve any of them. Low and behold, one year later I looked back on that list to reflect. I was so proud of myself. Not only had I purchased a house, but I managed to maintain some key changes in my life. This definitely changed my perception of 2020 and I looked back on the year with a lot more positivity as a result.
2021
I decided to do the same again this year. However, for 2021 my focus has shifted to spending more time doing the things that I love. I’ll probably keep the details of my 2021 list private (at least for now), but hopefully this time next year I will be just as happy with the outcome.
If you are feeling a bit stuck and in need of a change, I encourage you to make a similar list. By writing your goals down you will start making conscious decisions to achieve them, without even realising you are doing it!
